Description
Seeds from cross-pollinating my Astrophytum myriostigma tricostatum (variegated, but low expression) with my Astrophytum myriostigma quadricostatum.
I imported my tricostatum back in 2020 as “rose variegation” from an Italian grower, but in greenhouse conditions it was just a typical yellow hue. In sun, the tricostatum plants do blush a deeper red hue, but that’s true of most variegated Astrophytum myriostigma.
While variegation does not always breed true, tricostatum and quadricostatum are considerably more likely to produce more plants like themselves. It will not be 100%, but you will get a higher ratio of seedlings with fewer lobes compared to the nominate species.
