Gymnocalycium vatteri – Seeds

Description

Seeds from hand-pollinating my Gymnocalycium vatteri. Latin name synonyms include Gymnocalycium ochoterenae ssp. vatteri, but it’s been elevated to full species status since.

A slow growing, small-maturing cactus that has a chiseled, globular body and limited spines – only one to three per areole. Produces huge, showy white flowers with a red throat.

Summer growing species that is hardy, easy to maintain, and very attractive as a container cactus. When grown from seed, they tend to develop a decent sized tap root, and will sink in close to the soil surface when water is reduced.
